Before the Chronoforms
Sep. 29th, 2015 07:34 pmI know I’ve been pretty enigmatic and vague about what Evelyn’s Essence really is, the being that existed before the Time Lords imprisoned in in a physical form. I’ve been dropping hints in prose here and there that give more of a feel, rather than seeking to explicitly define it. I intend to keep things somewhat ambiguous in that regard, partly due to the fact that I see that side of her as being next to impossible to really understand, at least by beings in a more limited dimensional scope. Even Evelyn (and in her past, Galatea) doesn’t really understand it all that much, being constrained to physical form. She has no direct memory of her existence as this immaterial form, just indecipherable and surreal glimpses in dreams on occasion that are often so abstract that she can scarcely recall them after.
I can say that her immaterial form is very elemental in nature. It has neither gender nor spoken language, but it does communicate using the “languages” of nature on a higher-dimensional level, the songs of the stars and the trees, the wind and stone and water. It is intrinsically connected to the fabric of time and space, including the flora and fauna, the flows of nature. Evelyn often feels echoes of this connection, which is why she has such a gift for gardening and befriending animals.
There were others like it, but Galatea was the only one who was made into a Chronoform because she had slipped down into the lower dimensions out of curiosity and a desire to explore, encountering the earliest Time Lords (I’ve dropped hints that it was Rassilon, Omega, and the Other, but that point is flexible). The Time Lords essentially tried to duplicate her higher-dimensional energy wave patterns when making the others like her. They were no less alive (though the Time Lords did not consider them to be such, being engineered life forms), but some of them were also more prone to being unwell mentally, with fragmented psyches and violent temperments.
